Welcome to the website of the Portsmouth Unit of
The Maritime Volunteer Service

We meet every week to train and practice the skills required to support the local maritime, nautical and naval community. Whilst also preparing to assist at national maritime events and in the event of emergencies.

Our primary aims are:

Ÿ
To stimulate the interest of volunteers from all walks of life in maritime affairs
Ÿ
To provide high quality training in maritime skills to recognised standards
Ÿ
To be an interesting and useful spare time activity that is fun and exciting with a strong emphasis on safety at all times
Ÿ
To maintain a corps of trained volunteers capable of supporting maritime authorities ashore and afloat at maritime events or emergencies

The Maritime Volunteer Service is open to people aged 18 or over and is for those interested in the Portsmouth maritime, nautical and naval community.

It can also be seen as the next step for those who wish to try something different or move on from the Sea Cadets, Nautical Training Corps, Sea Scouts/Rangers or the Combined Cadet Force and can also be useful way for former members of the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy to pass on their skills.

We welcome new members to join our three branches:
Ÿ
Seamanship
Ÿ
Engineering
Ÿ
Operations

We are a very respected maritime service formally recognised by the Royal Navy, the Coast Guard, the Queen’s Harbour Master, the RNLI and other nautical organisations. In addition, we are one of only a select group of organisations allowed to fly a privileged Red Ensign, also affectionately known as the ‘Red Duster’.
